So, we’re going through chicken pox at our house. My 4 year old got it a couple of weeks ago, and just when I thought the girls weren’t going to get it, the spots appeared today. The only thing I remember about having chicken pox as a kid is the itching (oh, the itching!) and oatmeal baths.
When the pox first appeared, I headed to King Soopers to get some oatmeal bath stuff. I paid dearly for the off-brand colloidal oatmeal bath powder (about $6 for six packets, I think), and then later realized… I think this stuff is just oatmeal. At least that’s what Google says.
Now that we’re almost through with the oatmeal powder packets, I’m wondering if I can make colloidal oatmeal myself. Have you ever done this to relieve skin conditions? Is it possible to grind oats small enough to dissolve and get the same effect? Or am I missing something that is provided in those expensive little packets?
I’d love to hear!
By the way, if it’s not obvious, I’m not a doctor. I’m a mom, and my favorite doctor is Dr. Google. So please do not take anything I may say about the chicken pox or anything else as professional medical advice.
