Two nice promos at Safeway this week – a cereal sale and a P&G promo! Keep in mind that Safeways in our area have been implementing stricter coupon policies, such as only one printable coupon of any type in a transaction, so keep that in mind. Even if you don’t agree with the policy (it’s a little extreme!), you’ll have a much smoother shopping experience if you abide by it! :)
Buy 5 Save $5 Cereal Sale
Buy 5 participating breakfast items, save $5 instantly on your order! Limit 20 total, so you could buy 20 boxes and receive $20 off your total order.
Listed below are all the items that are in the ad, but there are “over 50 items” included, so get your coupons together and head to the store! There are cereal printables at [coupons.com], [smartsource.com], [redplum.com], Kelloggs.com, and Boxtops4Education.com. Use the coupon database to find other insert coupons, there are definitely some available that could make some products a smokin’ deal if they’re included in the sale!
Prices below reflect $1 discount per item for buying 5 items. Make sure you buy in multiples of 5!
Kellogg’s Pop Tarts (8-ct) – $1
Buy three and use $1.25/3 Kellogg’s Pop Tarts 8 ct+ 3/28/2010 RP Insert
Net cost at checkout: $0.58
Rating: 4, or a 5 if you’re a big-time Pop Tarts eater. They’ve been free in the past, but not for quite awhile.
Kellogg’s Froot Loops Cereal (12.2 oz) – $1.50
Buy two and use $1/2 Kellogg’s Cereals Select Varieties 3/7/2010 RP Insert (exp 4/18)
Net cost at checkout: $1.00
Rating: 3 – hurry, coupon expires on Sunday!
Quaker Instant Oatmeal (10.9 to 16.2 oz) – $1.50
Use $1/1 Quaker True Delights Instant Oatmeal
Net cost at checkout: $0.50
Rating: 5 – btw, Sunny mentioned that she found $1/1 peelies at King Soopers on this product, so keep your eyes “peeled” for them at Safeway, too! (Please do not take them off products at KS to use at Safeway, though. :))
General Mills Cheerios (14 oz) – $1.50
Use $1/1 General Mills Cheerios (registration required, no sure if coupons come right away)
or buy two and use $1/2 General Mills Cereals
or $1/2 General Mills Cereal Varieties 3/7/2010 SS Insert (exp 4/17)
Net cost at checkout: $0.50-1.00
Rating: 4-5
Kellogg’s Raisin Bran (20 oz) – $2

or $1/2 Kellogg’s Cereals 11.4 oz+ 4/11/2010 RP Insert
Net cost at checkout: $1.50
Rating: 3
Post Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal (14.5 oz) – $2
Buy two and use $1/2 Post Cereal 3/14/2010 SS Insert
Net cost at checkout: $1.50
Rating: 2-3 – this brand of cereal doesn’t go on sale too often, so if you are really brand-loyal you may rate this better.
Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Bars (10.4 oz) – $2
No coupons that I can find
Rating: 3
Remember, there are over 50 items included in this sale, so look for more deals in-store!
Meat, Dairy, and Frozen
93% Lean Ground Beef – B1G1 Free
Net cost at checkout: around $2.25/lb
Rating: 2-3
Eating Right Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts – $1.99/lb
Rating: 2-3
These aren’t really good prices on either cut, however, I believe they are for smaller packages instead of the larger family packs, so if you prefer the smaller packages it’s a better deal.
Oscar Mayer Lunchables – $1
Use $1/1 Oscar Mayer Lunchables 3/21/2010 SS Insert
Net cost at checkout: free!
Rating: 5
Oscar Mayer Deli Creations – $2
Use $1/1 Oscar Mayer Deli Creations
Net cost at checkout: $1
Rating: 5
Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Meat – $3
Buy two and use $1/2 Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Meats
or $1/2 Oscar Mayer Deli Meats 3/7/2010 SS Insert
Net cost at checkout: $2.50 each
Rating: 2-3
Produce
Strawberries (2 lb) – $3.49
Rating: 4, but cheaper at both Sunflower Market and King Soopers this week.
Nature Sweet Cocktail Tomatoes (12 oz) – $1.99
Rating: 3
General Grocery and Household
Rice a Roni – $0.99
Buy three and use $1/3 Rice-A-Roni or Pasta Roni 1/3/2010 RP #2 Insert
Net cost at checkout: $0.66
Rating: 4 – there have been better deals with this coupon, but it’s about to expire so if you haven’t used it yet and plan to, now is probably a good time.
Duncan Hines Cake Mix – $0.99
Buy two and use $0.55/2 Duncan Hines Product 3/28/2010 SS #1 Insert
Net cost at checkout: $0.50 each
Rating: 4 – this is a great price, but this coupon doesn’t expire for several months, and I’m guessing it will probably go lower before then. (If not, we’ll probably see this price again before then.)
Softsoap Liquid Handsoap (7.5 oz) – $0.99
Use $0.50/1 Softsoap Hand Soap Mar 2010 All You Magazine (exp 4/16)
Net cost at checkout: free, but you’ll have to hurry – the coupon expires Friday!
Glade Air Freshener (9 oz) – $0.75 with in-ad coupon, limit 1
Buy two and use B1G1 Glade Spray 3/21/2010 SS Insert
Net cost at checkout: $0.75 for two or $0.38 each
Rating: 5 – the in-ad coupon is limit 1, but you should be able to “buy” a second one at full price to use the B1G1 manufacturer’s coupon.
Hallmark Cards – $2 off purchase of 3 with in-ad coupon
Doesn’t include the $0.99 cards, but a decent deal if you need cards – they never go on sale!
Applebees Gift Cards – buy two $25, get $5 on your next order
Proctor and Gamble Sale: Buy $25 Get $10
Buy $25 of participating Proctor and Gamble products in one transaction, get a coupon for $10. The fine print reads: “limit one per transaction. Purchases exclude Safeway Store Coupons, Club Card Loaded Coupons, Manufacturer coupons, and e-coupons, sales tax, and online purchases.”
I’m not sure what is meant by “purchases exclude… manufacturer coupons and e-coupons”. It seems that your $25 total may need to be after those coupons instead of before, as usual, but I’m not sure how it’s going to work.
Below are the items that are listed in the ad. There are e-coupons online at [pgesaver] as well as coupons available in the P&G inserts that came on 3/7 and 4/4 and the RedPlum insert on 3/14 and 3/28.
I’m not going to match up coupons since I am not really sure if the $25 minimum is going to be before or after coupons. I figured a “net cost after catalina”, which is figuring a 40% savings ($10 of $25 is 40%).
Most of these are really great deals even without a coupon especially if you are P&G loyal, and would be even better with a coupon – just be warned that the promotional language indicates
Tide Laundry Detergent or Stain Release (50-oz. 2X Liquid, 70 to 71-oz. Powder or Stain Release 18-oz., 36-ct. Up to 25 to 32 Loads) – $6.99
Net cost after catalina if you buy exactly $25: $4.19
Rating: 5
Pampers Big Pack Diapers – $19.99
Net cost after catalina if you buy exactly $25: $11.99
Rating: probably a 5
Charmin Bath Tissue (12 big rolls) – $7.99
Net cost after catalina if you buy exactly $25: $4.79
Rating: 4-5, about $0.40/roll which is a good deal if they are “double” rolls
Duracell Batteries (AA or AAA 8 to 10-ct., C or D 4-ct., 9 Volt 2-ct. or Duracell Ultra AA or AAA 8-ct.) – $5.49
Net cost after catalina if you buy exactly $25: $3.29
Rating: 3-4, probably a 5 if you use a coupon
If you are not P&G loyal, you may get better deals on laundry detergent and diapers by buying other brands.
