Cathy emailed in with this tip on what she calls “rescue flowers” at home improvement stores:
I picked up geraniums for 35¢ for a small pot, vincas for the same price and a couple of 6-pack marigolds and alyssim for 67¢. I also picked up some 5 gallon hostas for $3.00. They just need water because they are drooping. I “flowered” my yard last year and this year with rescue flowers. They are actually called bargin bin flowers or reduced price, but since I feel I rescue them, that’s where I got the name.
I followed up with Cathy and asked where she usually finds these types of plants and she said they’re usually in the patio garden section at Lowe’s. “At the Lowes on Powers, you can find them back behind the flowers and in front of the block and paving section, still outside. If you go to the Lowes up North, they are to the left of the outside garden registers when you walk in from the parking lot. They are clearly marked, and if you can’t find them, just ask!”
Thanks for the tip and the detailed information on where to find them, Cathy! Anyone else have experience with “rescue flowers”?
