Super Savings Saturday: a change in shopping strategy

Published May 22, 2010 by Carrie in Expired

Here’s this week’s grocery shopping trips.  I got a table full of food for just over $68!

  • 11 bottles of Heinz ketchup
  • 20 lbs of russet potatoes
  • 3 boxes of Surf detergent
  • 3 bottles of All detergent
  • 2 packages Huggies diapers
  • 3 packages Keebler Sandies
  • 1.5 lbs of Mahi Mahi
  • cucumbers, grapes, bananas, an orange, scallions, and zucchini
  • rolled oats and a little bit of steel cut oats
  • panko bread crumbs
  • 2 dozen eggs

We had enough meat leftover from last week that I didn’t need to buy much this week. You can see how to work some of these amazing deals by checking on the King Soopers, Sunflower Market, Walmart, and Rancho Liborio posts!

My shopping strategy has changed a bit over the past few months.  Taking three kids to the store while pregnant can get exhausting, and, well, if I wait until they’re in bed in the evening I’m just plain too worn out to go to the store!

So, I haven’t gotten as many smokin’ deals lately.  No more trips into Safeway just to get free Windex…  I’ve got a few bottles and it will be quite awhile before I use those.  The free Ziploc containers are tempting, but Safeway doesn’t have much else on sale so I’ll probably skip it unless I get a major burst of energy while driving by a Safeway!

I’ve also been trying to purchase fewer processed items.  For me, this means no more granola bars or Cocoa Krispies just because they’re cheap (free still talks to me).  I’ve found that not only are they not good for you, it takes 3 granola bars to make me feel like I’ve even had a snack, and if I’m eating three at a time, they’re not that frugal anymore, huh?

This has also meant that snacktimes have been a bit of a struggle.  Since I’m not buying granola bars to feed the masses, I have to make them something.  And, well, that whole tired thing keeps happening.

So, there’s just a bit of what my grocery shopping life has been life the past month or two!
