The other day Jeremy mentioned Penzey’s Spices was going in next to his “resident coffee shop”, Serrano’s. I stopped by today to see if they were open, and the sign said Closed but when I asked the person working outside, he said they were open so I headed in!
Turns out their official grand opening is tomorrow (Friday), but they were all set up and ready to go and were having a “soft” opening to whoever dropped in today. I was their second customer! :)
So, you can now visit Penzey’s Spices in the Falcon Landing shopping center on North Academy, just north of Woodmen! The employees told me they expected their Broadmoor Towne Center location to open tomorrow as well.
I was granted permission to take a photo of their new store:
Lots of yummy spices and seasoning blends! They sell them in glass jars and, depending on the spice, one, four, and eight ounce bags (not positive on those sizes). Of course it’s much cheaper to buy them in the bag and put them in your own jars – I paid $6.90 for one ounce of oregano and four ounces of cumin, which of course sounds like a lot until you realize how light spices are! I’d say it’s comparable or cheaper than buying spices in jars at the store, and of course they are fresher.
You can visit either of the new Colorado Springs Penzey stores at 2010 Southgate or 7431 N. Academy.
