What To Make With What’s On Sale: Biscuit Dough

Published March 23, 2012 by Staff Writer in Home & Family

It’s time for this week’s What To Make With What’s On Sale!  Pillsbury Grands Refrigerated Biscuits are as low as $0.69 each after coupon this week at Safeway.  Even if you’re not a fan of eating canned biscuits, there are lots of creative ways to use refrigerated biscuit dough in cooking.  Here are some ideas!

Here’s a fun recipe from Paula Deen for Donuts and Holes made from refrigerated biscuits.  This look like a fun food project to make with the kids!

Monkey bread is another sweet treat that can be made with canned biscuits.  This classic recipe calls for the basic ingredients of biscuit dough, sugar, cinnamon and butter.  If you want to change it up a bit, try this Monkey Bread with a Twist (which calls for chopped apples) or this one, Bananas Foster Monkey Bread.

Here’s just one more dessert recipe I must share: Apple Dumplings.  I’ve made these before and I’d recommend coarsely chopping the apples first, and reducing the water to half a cup.  Otherwise, this recipe is delicious and so easy to make!

Refrigerated biscuits are also great for making appetizers.  These appetizer recipe ideas — Taco Tarts and Cream Cheese Tarts — only require a few simple ingredients.  Try experimenting with the recipes by using different fillings and seasonings!

Here are a couple of chicken & biscuit-type recipes: Cheater Pot Pie — a very simple recipe that takes 15 minutes or less to put together — and Chef John’s Chicken and Biscuits — a more involved recipe, but which still uses refrigerated biscuits.  (Both of these recipes would be great with turkey in place of chicken…if you still have leftover turkey in the freezer from Thanksgiving, like I do!) :)

A couple of years ago Money Saving Mom asked this question on her blog: “What are your most creative ideas for using up canned biscuits?”  Read through the comments on her blog post to find lots of fun and tasty ways to use your Pillsbury Grands!

Do you have a canned biscuit recipe that you love?  Please do share!
