This year I’m doing something I’ve never done before: a Christmas gift guide! For more on this series and to find all the gift guides as they are published, click here.
My seven-year-old’s Christmas wish list goes something like this:
Yes, we are a Lego family, and though we already have quite a collection (both Jeremy and I have our childhood Legos in our kids’ collection), there really can never be enough. There are so many cool Lego sets out there, but if you’re looking for a gift for a Lego lover that’s something other than just “another Lego set”, here are some ideas.
1. Books about Legos
My son asks me to put Lego books on hold at the library all the time. He pores over them for hours, and it seems that there is something new to look at every time they are opened, even if you’ve looked at them a hundred times before. (Don’t you love books like that?)
So, while I’m a huge fan of the library, these books contain so much entertainment value that they just might be worth owning. We have particularly enjoyed these books:
Here are some others that look cool:
2. Lego Sticker Books
Yes, these are similar to Lego books but seriously, the Lego stickers are just so cool they deserve to be mentioned separately.
3. Lego Building Plates
You can’t ever have enough building plates. Enough said.
4. Lego Minifigures
I never really got into the minifigures as a child, but my kids love playing with their minifigs, probably as much as building itself! You can buy a large set of minifigures and accessories – and if you are strategic, you can split up the sets into gifts for different Lego lovers or even for separate holidays. ;)
You can also get packages of single minifigures in-store at Target and Walmart (Target has them this year; I know Walmart did last year). I saw them for $1.00 each last year, but we recently bought one at it was $2.99.
5. Lego Brick Separator
I somehow got through my childhood without one of these, but Jeremy loved it and my kids frequently use it, too.
6. Lego Miscellaneous Parts
For the kids who love to build, build, build, the sets never come with enough of the same parts.
Do you have a Lego lover on your Christmas list?
