Continuing my list of favorite restaurants from yesterday, here’s part two:
For coffee, my husband Jeremy is a regular at R&R Coffee Cafe in Black Forest. If you want really fresh coffee, go here. The owner, Ryan, roasts it daily and it’s quite likely that the coffee you’re drinking was roasted in the past 24-48 hours. (Jeremy was in the other day and wanted a pound of his favorite Indian Monsooned Malabar to take home, and Ryan roasted him a pound fresh while he was there because they were out.)
I really love their Tin Cup Cowboy drink – it’s three (?) kinds of chocolate and it’s the most intensely-chocolate coffee drink you can get anywhere. The Tin Cup Cowgirl is chocolate with raspberry. Let’s just say their drink menu options alone put Starbucks to shame. Plus, they cook all their food from actual scratch!
When the frozen yogurt joints first started rolling into town, I was skeptical that Colorado Springs could support 6+ frozen yogurt places in addition to all the ice cream places we already had. After all, I don’t particularly like going out for ice cream – I always leave feeling like I could have gone to King Soopers and bought nearly a half gallon of ice cream that’s just as good for the same price. Or less.
But, we got hooked on frozen yogurt and go out for that way more than we ever did for ice cream. Our favorite is SummerSweet on North Academy – they have the best selection of flavors we like and we prefer the coffeehouse vibe of SummerSweet.
Right next to SummerSweet is Pei Wei, which is my favorite place for Asian food. It’s fast casual, so you don’t have to tip (score!) and just about everything I’ve tried there has been delicious. The Orange Peel is amazing, Caramel Chicken is delicious, Dan Dan Noodles is great, the list goes on.
In the highly-divisive area of burgers, we really like Smashburger. The Colorado burger is really good, and I love the Smashfries. I feel like it’s kind of expensive for a burger joint, but it’s a different type of burger than anything I can make at home, so it works. We usually eat here with a coupon (same with Pei Wei).
Oh, I’ve neglected to mention that Jeremy is very addicted to the onion rings at Freddy’s. I think they may be the reason he recently started working out. ;)
Hmm, well, I’m sure I’ve forgotten a restaurant here or there but that’s all I can think of now. I would love to hear about your favorite restaurants in Colorado Springs – just jump in the comments here!
