Here are the homeschool events that will be going on at various branches of the Pikes Peak Library District during November:
Homeschool Lunch Bunch
Wednesday, November 7th from 11:30 AM -1:00 PM at the Fountain Library
Passport to Adventure: Join us the first Wednesday of the month as we learn about countries, cultures, people and possibilities. Each month we’ll explore some place new through crafts, games, food and activities. Earn a stamp in your passport for each program you attend. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy after the program as you spend time getting to know other homeschool families. Programs are geared toward elementary-age children but siblings older and younger are welcome!
Homeschool Lunch Bunch
Wednesday, November 28 from 11:30 AM -1:00 PM at the High Prairie Library
Join us at the High Prairie Library, when our guest presenters from the Falcon Fire Department will teach us about fire safety and the importance of fire escape plans. After the presentation, you may enjoy your sack lunch with other homeschool families. Registration is recommended but not required for the lunch bunch meeting. Register on the High Prairie event calendar by calling 260-3650. Our research subject this month is government and elections. What do you already know about our government, and what can you learn at the library? When you register for the homeschool event, we’ll send you questions. You can explore the government and election resources offered to you by PPLD (research suggestions will be provided with the questions).
World of Water
Friday, November 2nd from 1-2 PM at the East Library Community Room
In this presentation by the Fountain Creek Nature Center, compete for the cleanest water and get your hands wet while you learn more about household pollutants and better ways to conserve. Recommended for ages 8 and older.
Water We Care
Friday, November 16th from 1-2 PM at the East Library Community Room
Play multiple games with the Bear Creek Nature Center to discover how cool water is and perform a water quality test on a creek sample. Your water sample may include a live critter from Bear Creek. Recommended for ages 8 and older. Registration is required; register here or at the East Children’s Desk 531-6333 (x1403).
Homeschool Science Lab
Friday, November 2nd and 16th from 1-3 PM at the East Library
Homeschooled students can use PPLD’s science equipment for parent-assigned experiments, with the help of our volunteer. A parent must accompany the student.
Friday, November 9th from 2-3 PM at the East Library
Need a good book? Join us for booktalks for homeschool students grades 6 through 12!
A booktalk is a 1-5 minute spirited “advertisement” for a book with a hook to grab the students’ interest.
• Booktalks provide a fun, entertaining and effective approach to reading.
• They encourage students to become fluent readers and library users.
Grades 6 to 8: East Conference Rooms 1 & 2
Grades 9 to 12: East Teen Center
Parents are welcome to attend — please register every family member who will attend! Registration required; call 719-389-8968 to register.
Wednesday, November 28th from 2-3:30 PM at the Penrose Library
Join other homeschool teens for a snack and discussion on a great book! Call Molly at 719-531-6333 x 2338 for this month’s book title.
