Thanksgiving is less than a week away — can you believe it? If you’re looking for the best deals on Thanksgiving foods, check out the Thanksgiving essentials price comparison list! Sweet potatoes are one of those essentials, and they’re just $0.49/lb this week at both Sprouts and Safeway.
The sweet potato is often thought of as a once-a-year food that’s only seen on the Thanksgiving spread. I’ll share some Thanksgiving recipes here, but you’ll also see some fun ideas for serving this superfood for more than just holiday mealtimes. Here are eight tasty recipes that use sweet potatoes!
Sweet potato fries seem to be popular at restaurants these days, but you can also make them at home. This recipe for battered and deep-fried sweet potato fries is incredible! If you want a healthier version that’s still delicious (although not as crispy as the fried version) try Ina Garten’s Baked Sweet Potato “Fries.”

The Pioneer Woman’s “Soul Sweet Taters” are decadent enough to be a dessert. Baked sweet potatoes are mashed, mixed with sugar and eggs, then topped with a pecan-butter-brown sugar mixture and baked again. Yum!
These Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes are made with butter, brown sugar, cream cheese, and spices. They’re a festive alternative to the regular twice baked white potato!
Paula Deen’s Sweet Potato Balls are made with a sweetened sweet potato mixture that’s formed around a large marshmallow, rolled in shredded coconut, then baked. These would make a fun side dish or even a dessert. Be sure to watch them closely during the last few minutes of baking since the marshmallows expand and could cause the balls to crack or burst open.

This Creamy Sweet Potato Soup seems like a great way to use sweet potatoes that doesn’t call for doctoring them up with a lot of sugar! It’s seasoned with nutmeg and a bit of maple syrup, and made creamy with half-and-half.
Here’s another savory dish: Curry-Spiced Sweet Potatoes. The recipe calls for half a teaspoon of curry powder for two pounds of potatoes, but I recommend using more to taste if you enjoy Indian flavors.
These Southwestern Bean & Quinoa Burgers use a sweet potato as the base. They’re great served with toppings such as sour cream, salsa, avocado, and cilantro!
