It’s time for What To Make With What’s On Sale! This week at Albertsons, Duncan Hines cake mix is as low as $0.74 after coupon.
The uses for a cake mix aren’t limited to the instructions on the back of the box. Here are six creative recipes that use cake mix!
Did you know you can make cookies with a cake mix? These Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are made from a devil’s food cake mix. You can start with any flavor of mix, and by adding two eggs and one-third cup of oil or melted butter, you end up with cookie dough! Cake mix cookies are a little lighter and, well, more cake-like than your typical cookie.
Quick breads can also be made from a cake mix. This Cake Mix Banana Bread is quick to mix up and easily modified with whatever spices, add-ins, or toppings you like.
Here’s a super simple dessert recipe made with yellow cake mix — Slow Cooker Cherry Dump Dessert. It calls for three ingredients: cake mix, butter, and cherry pie filling! I like to throw this together when we have last minute guests — it’s ready in as little as two hours when cooked on high in the crockpot.

Cake mixes are easily turned into something more interesting than just a plain cake. This Irish Cream Bundt Cake is full of flavor and saves well. If you’re needing a fancier dessert, try this Tiramisu Layer Cake. If you want it to taste even more like the real thing, double the amount of instant coffee and coffee liqueur. Also, when whipping the cream for the frosting, be careful not to whip it too long. Overwhipped cream is difficult to spread!
Here’s one more doctored-up cake mix recipe, The Pioneer Woman’s Pig Cake, made with yellow cake mix, mandarin oranges, and crushed pineapple. She says it’s a great cake for potlucks!
