Just to let you know that I didn’t fall off the face of the earth and have a robot posting for myself now, I’m still here and trying to get into a routine after our big move. Sometime soon I have to tell you the story – or at least give you the general gist – of how the purchase of our new house went down. It was completely God who brought it all together!
So, look at this:
It’s the ceiling of our new family room – we are taking down the drywall because it needs to be redone, and it will make the electrical work we are having done a lot cheaper because things will be much easier to access.
We really want to leave the beams exposed, and I’m pretty sure we are committed to that, but we can’t figure out what to do as far as lighting. We had planned to do recessed lights in the ceiling, but that obviously doesn’t really work if there isn’t a ceiling to recess them into. We considered doing sconces on the wall, but that would be a lot of sconces to get a good amount of light, and it doesn’t get light into the middle of the room which is where it’s needed most.
Last night at Home Depot, we saw some sweet old-fashioned lanterns that plug in and thought it would be cool to hang maybe 5-6 of those in the room (we could put outlets instead of light fixture things) but the cords come out of the bottom and really need to come out of the top to work. I can’t find a picture of them, unfortunately.
Anyway, so what would you do for lighting in this ceiling? If it was a living room, I’d say we would just do lamps and not worry about overhead lighting, but I think we might regret not having good light in the room we want to play games and stuff.
