Allow me to say that I am super annoyed every time I see a back-to-school ad right now. Really, already?! We just finished with the 4th of July and I for one am totally not ready to start thinking about going back to school. I probably should be because I know I need to order some stuff for history and math (we homeschool) but right now I couldn’t care less whether or not I miss out on a sale – I just don’t even want to think about summer being over. :)
A couple of my kids have been sick the past few days. It’s always so nerve-wracking when one of them gets sick. I spend days wondering if everyone is going to get it or if it’s going to be isolated to a couple of children. The latter seems to often be the case, but I’m still on pins and needles listening for every cough to turn out to be, uh, more than a cough. I confessed to my MIL last night that I can’t remember which of my kids typically throw up and which ones don’t, so when one of them is acting sick I rack my brain trying to think of whether or not I should expect this child to chunder or if it will just make them crabby without too many other nasty side effects.
Check out what one of our electricians found when he was working in the attic of our new house:
It’s a well-preserved snake specimen, cataloged at the University of Colorado in 1930, according to the label. It is, yes, quite gross, but really cool at the same time. :) I don’t know how it was preserved but whatever they did, it worked!
I keep waiting to find either a huge stash of cash or a dead body as we uncover stuff in the new/old house. I think I’ve watched too many Perry Mason episodes! So far, we’ve only found things like a 1920s camera, some ephemera, old shoes, and snakes in bottles. But, that’s enough to get me excited – after all, I do have a check printed on canvas! (We did find a check from the original owner – but I’m not sure that one is significant enough for me to pay to have it printed on canvas like the one that symbolizes my family history.)
