We went to Dirty Woman Park in Monument for the first time a few weeks ago and had a great time. Don’t let the name scare you off – it’s apparently named after a woman who lived on the land with particularly unsanitary lifestyle, including pigs in her house! You can read a little bit more about the history of this woman in this blog post from Restless Native.
The park features a small playground…
A basketball court – and sand volleyball, too…
Picnic pavilions and large playfields…
And a creek, which is much more attractive to my bigger kids than a playground these days!
I told my friend that creeks are Colorado’s waterparks and pool, because we certainly don’t have many of those but my kids don’t know the difference! The concept of spending all summer at a pool would shock my kids. :)
We really liked this park, and we’ll definitely be back! The address for Dirty Woman Park is 17575 Mitchell Rd. in Monument.
