Fountain Creek Nature Center

Fountain Creek Nature Center is another one of the great places to learn about nature in the Colorado Springs area.  It was recently renovated, and my kids and I visited it for the first time this summer.

Inside the renovated nature center, you’ll find displays that inform about the various types of wildlife you can see in this part of Colorado.

There are also animal puppets that my kids really enjoyed playing with!

Once you are done inside the nature center, you can step outside on the deck to observe many types of birds.  Since there is actually water in this part of the county, the birds that you’ll see here vary greatly from what we typically see in the northern part of El Paso County – lots of ducks and herons!

There are various trails that you can take around the ponds and Fountain Creek.  We saw lizards and snakes hanging out amongst the rushes on one of the trails!

There are places to picnic close to the nature center, or you can drive a short distance to Fountain Creek Regional Park, which has a large playground.

Fountain Creek Nature Center is free, and you can find more information here.  Be sure to also check out El Paso County’s other nature center, Bear Creek Nature Center!
