The biannual free clothing exchange at Woodmen Valley Chapel takes places this Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd. Bring clothing to donate on Friday, and/or shop for free on Saturday! You don’t have to give to receive, and of course you can donate without “shopping”. :) Find the hours and more info for this event here. Thanks, My Kids Week!
Archives for September 2015
The 2015 Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival will be next October 3rd-11th. Various businesses and industries will be hosting special events in conjunction with this festival; most are designed for children or families and many are free! You can tour a radio station, learn about food science at Adam’s Mountain Cafe, learn more about Garden of the Gods, and many other things.
All of the events are listed here; be sure to read the details of each event because some may require reservations.
Denise emailed me with this tip:
The Pikes Peak Children’s Museum is still raising funds for a building, etc. but they are hosting a traveling Clifford exhibit at the Space Foundation Discovery Center on the west side from October 3rd to mid-January. For just $30, you can get a family pass to the exhibit and the Space Foundation Discovery Center good for that whole time.
Here’s more about the exhibit from the museum’s website:
Slide down Clifford’s tale, work together to fill Clifford’s big dog bowl with bones, hunt for sea shells at T-Bone’s beach or “work” in the fish and chip shop on Birdwell Island and more. No matter what activity you choose, your child will learn valuable life lessons through play. We look forward to welcoming your family and transporting you to the world of Clifford, Emily Elizabeth and all the residents of Birdwell Island!
The family pass is good for one or two adults and their children or grandchildren aged 17 and under. For more on the Clifford exhibit, go to the Pikes Peak Children’s Museum website.
The pass to the Clifford exhibit includes admission to the Space Foundation Discovery Center as well – check out what a Springs Bargains reader had to say about this local attraction that not a lot of people know about.
I finally got my master grocery list formatted and I’m trying it out for the first time today.
I just saw this on Facebook and thought some of you might be interested if you’re planning to be in the University Village area on Saturday: the Wild Bird Center store is hosting “Live Birds of Prey” from The Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo. They’ll be there this Saturday, October 3rd, from 11 AM to 2 PM. I can’t find out too much more about it, but thought it might be a fun diversion for kids after they’ve suffered through Costco or Lowe’s. ;)
$2.66 for Great Value (gallon) at Walmart Razorback Rd
Shelf price; updated September 30.
I feel like I’ve been hearing about grocery pick-up from King Soopers and Walmart in the Denver area forever and I’ve been waiting very impatiently for it to come here! Finally, Walmart is bringing their grocery pick-up service to five stores in the Colorado Springs area (8th Street, Razorback Rd, Fountain, Falcon, and Monument). You can order online and pick up in-store starting October 13th. (Actually, you can create an order now, but you can’t pick it up until then.)
If you use coupon code FIRSTORDER, you’ll save 10% off your first order of $30 or more.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were going to have a special door at the front of the store where you could pick it up without having to go inside – does anyone know the details on that? Or maybe some of you that are in Denver have used it and can let us Springs people know how it works!
I’m not a big Walmart shopper (based on comparisons I’ve done, King Soopers’ shelf prices are very similar and when King Soopers is higher, their much better sale prices make it even out) but if King Soopers doesn’t hurry up and get their online ordering and pickup here in the Springs I just might try it out!
Thanks to Kimberly for the tip.
This Wednesday, Sonic is doing their small and medium ice cream blasts for half-off! You have to ask for the offer, and there’s a limit of two “per person” (not sure if that means per car or what). It’s valid all day long on September 30th. Thanks, Money Saving Mom!
