If you haven’t checked out our page of new stores and restaurants coming soon, and you’re also not a coffee drinker, you might as well not look at that page because it seems that all I’ve added to it lately has been new coffee shops!
Okay, not quite all, but there are certainly a lot of new coffee stops coming to the Springs:
- Dutch Bros is opening new locations in the former Taco Bueno on N. Academy and one on the southwest corner of Dublin and Powers. There are also two other locations (Platte & Murray, and Academy & Maizeland) that are rumored to be in the works.
- The hip downtown favorite Loyal Coffee is opening a north side location in the old Cafe Velo on Voyager.
- C&C Coffee & Kitchen is now open near Bass Pro Shop
- Solar Roast is now open in the old Starbucks space at the corner of Tejon and Bijou downtown.
- Black Forest’s R&R Coffee Cafe is opening a second location inside the Tri-Lakes YMCA
And in case you’re wondering what’s going in at the old Taco Bueno on Garden of the Gods, that’s another Raising Cane’s. A third Raising Cane’s is also going in at Powers and Barnes.
Check out the grand openings page for even more new stuff that’s coming to town.
Tuesday, September 3rd will be a free admission day at the Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street. Find out more about what you’ll find at this location on their website.
The next free day for the York Street gardens is November 11th, and the next free day for Chatfield Farms is November 5th.
Don’t forget that Colorado Springs Utilities has a xeriscape garden that’s free to visit! It’s small, but I think it’s worth a visit – you can see my post with photos here.
The annual Smithsonian Museum Day is coming up on Saturday, September 21st: visit dozens of different museums in Colorado (and across the country) for free when you register for a ticket here. The ticket is valid for one person plus one guest, and you must register ahead of time for a specific museum to get the ticket. You can only register for one museum to attend on Museum Day.
There are twenty-nine Colorado museums participating this year, including our local ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Western Museum of Mining and Industry, and Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.
Colorado Springs’ annual hot air balloon festival (officially known as the Labor Day Lift-Off) is this weekend, with balloons launching bright and early on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings and the Balloon Glows at 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to the big attraction of the balloons, they’ll have the USAFA Wings of Blue skydive jumpers, axe throwing demonstrations, donut eating competitions, and more – check out the full schedule of events on the Labor Day Lift-Off website.
Salvation Army will have a 50% off sale this Friday through Monday, August 30th-September 2 – most of the store (usually a couple of tag colors and mattresses are excluded) will be on sale for half-off. Our Salvation Army store is located at 3955 Tutt Blvd., and if you haven’t heard, they are now open on Sundays.
Arc Thrift will also have a 50% off sale this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (current tags excluded). See Colorado Springs-area Arc, Salvation Army, and other thrift stores here.
Scooter’s Coffee is offering teachers and students $1 off any drink through August 30th – just show your student or teacher ID! Colorado Springs’ Scooter’s is located at 4296 N. Academy.
If you’re military, you may want to schedule a trip to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo from September 9th-15th: they’ll be offering active-duty and veteran military half-priced admission! The discount is off the regular price of admission, and is valid for all dependents living in the same household. Check out their Facebook event page for details.
