Remember That House We Were Renovating?

Published June 10, 2021 by Carrie in Home & Family

What feels like way, waaaaaay back, in February 2020, I mentioned here on Springs Bargains that we were renovating a house to sell.

Well, it took us an awfully long time, but we finished it and sold it just last month.  It wasn’t supposed to take that long, but in the end God worked it all out and we are very happy to have it closed!  That project gave us all sorts of challenges, but we poured ourselves into it and in the end it was really satisfying to see our vision for it come to life.

If you’re curious, you can see the before and after photos here and see the full listing here.

This is actually the fifth house we’ve flipped since 2018 (and the most extensive by far).  In the end, we really like doing it, but have decided it’s best for our family to keep the renovation projects limited to our own fixer-upper in Black Forest and keep our business focused on serving buyers and sellers.

As far as Springs Bargains, I don’t think I’m going to resume regular posting but I plan to keep the site updated with things like grand openings, farmers market schedule, etc.  So, I’ll send out Springs Bargains updates from time to time – I’m just not sure how often that will be!

Thanks for being a reader of Springs Bargains.  Have a wonderful summer!

Summer Break Starts Now for Springs Bargains

Published May 20, 2020 by Carrie in Home & Family

I just wanted to let you know that Springs Bargains is officially starting summer break now.

While I’m still keeping an eye on things and would love to post some great deals and events, there’s obviously not a lot going on right now – but in my head it doesn’t actually feel like a “break” unless I make it official! I may pop in your inbox from time to time if I find a handful of things to share.

Frankly, I have a hard time sharing deals for large chain restaurants and stores when I know that many locally-owned businesses, who care deeply about our community, are struggling financially and will not make it without our support. Though I know it’s not always possible, I would encourage you to choose locally-owned businesses this summer when you can. More of the money you spend stays local when you choose a local business and right now, I’d rather encourage you to support my fellow business owners who personally live, work, and play in our beautiful city.

While I am uncomfortable being controversial, I truly believe that if we don’t stand up for our freedoms right now, we will lose them permanently. We’ve been told that the quarantine was put in place to flatten the curve, but the curve has clearly been flattened and we are still subject to oppressive restrictions. If you agree, please take courage and stand for freedom and not fear.

[Edited June 2nd to add: I appreciate the pushback that I’ve gotten from some people on the use of the term oppressive as an adjective for the restrictions we’re under.  I’ve thought about it a lot, and I understand the pushback and agree that I could have used a better word.  However, I will state that I think the American people have set a very dangerous precedent in so easily acquiescing to restrictions of questionable constitutionality, and I do think that could lead to a place where the word oppressive is absolutely appropriate.  Yes, we will probably “have it better” than many countries for many years to come, but again, the time to stand for freedom is now, before there’s nothing left to fight for.]

We’re still selling houses and helping buyers, and yes, we’re still working on The Gannon House. The market is crazy in all sorts of ways right now, but our listings are still selling! (All 8 homes we’ve listed in 2020 are sold or under contract!) We’d love to have you consider hiring us if you’re looking to buy or sell this year – check out our real estate website or just reply to this email to get in touch.

Work on The Gannon House slowed, but we’re starting to ramp it back up again so I hope to start sharing more updates on Instagram. We’re committed to make it an amazing home (to sell) no matter how long it takes us!

I wish you and your family many happy memories this summer!
