Reader Request: Pool Options for Families

Published May 28, 2014 by Carrie in Home & Family, Z Reader Requests

Anna writes:

Do you know any cheap ways that a family can gain access to a pool for the summer months? We unfortunately don’t live in an HOA that supplies one, and we aren’t members of a club (Villa Sport, Lifetime Fitness, etc.) that provides one. Nor do I want to buy a membership just for that–it’s just not high on the priority list.

I know that the Y has partnered with the city and runs a lot of pools, and if we were members, it would only be $125 for a summer-long pool pass. But as we are not (and I can’t justify joining just for that, even though I know they have so many other great programs), it is $450 for that same family pass. We can get a one-day pass at Cottonwood Creek Rec Center or Memorial Rec Center (which I assume includes the pool) for $25.

Is there anything else out there? I know about the playgrounds with water and the sprayground, but if I want an honest-to-goodness pool, are there any other options? We have 6 kids, and so I’m really reluctant to take too much advantage of my friends with access to their own community pools. I’m not expecting anything free or even terribly cheap, but I’d love a season-long option that wouldn’t break the bank. Suggestions?

If you can suggest a not-too-expensive option for a family pool in the Colorado Springs area, please click here to comment!

Reader Request: Tree Trimming Service

Published May 21, 2014 by Carrie in Home & Family, Z Reader Requests

Sarah writes:

I need recommendations for a tree trimming company in Colorado Springs. We need someone that does a good job, cleans up, and isn’t too expensive.  It’s a landscaping tree that needs to be trimmed (ie, not fire mitigation or tree removal).

If you can recommend a tree-trimming company for Sarah, please click here to comment!

Reader Request: Where To Find Bulk Whole-Wheat Flour

Published May 19, 2014 by Carrie in Home & Family, Z Reader Requests

Ashley writes:

I’m trying to find bulk whole wheat flour. I like the list of CSAs and Co-ops but the link to Provident People didn’t work and when I tried to search for it, I couldn’t find it anywhere.  Do you know if it is still a Co-op? Do you know of anywhere else I could look for a good deal on whole wheat flour?

The list of CSAs and co-cops Ashley mentioned is here.  I haven’t heard anything on Provident People folding, but their website doesn’t work anymore.  If you can help Ashley with either getting in touch with Provident People or finding another co-op where you purchase whole-wheat flour in bulk, please click here to comment!

Reader Request: Where to Sell Books for Cash

Published May 14, 2014 by Carrie in Home & Family, Z Reader Requests

Kelly writes:

I would love to know if there is a good place to sell books for cash in Colorado Springs. In our old state I was used to a great used bookstore where we could sell books as we were through with them. I had found one here but it closed and have found one that will buy books for store credit but maybe there is more out there that I haven’t found yet.

If you know where you can sell books for cash in Colorado Springs, please click here to comment!
